A New Chapter, Built on Purpose

There are moments in life - and in a career - when you feel a shift before you can fully explain it.
Not because something is wrong.
But because something deeper is calling you forward.
Over the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with firefighters and first responders through the OAPFF 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan. That work has meant more to me than I can fully put into words. Sitting at kitchen tables, walking through retirement numbers, hearing stories from the job - it’s not just financial planning. It’s personal. It’s trust. It’s responsibility.
And that’s exactly why this next step matters so much.

When “Good” Isn’t the End of the Story
From the outside, my previous role checked a lot of boxes. Stability. Structure. A clear path.
But over time, I started to feel something I hear from many of the people I work with:
“I know I’m doing well… but I don’t know if I’m doing what I’m meant to do.”
I wanted more flexibility in how I serve.
More depth in the conversations I have.
More ability to meet people where they are - not just where a system says they should be.
Because financial planning isn’t one-size-fits-all. And the people I serve deserve more than a template.
The Emotional Side of Change
If I’m being honest, this wasn’t an easy decision.
There’s comfort in the familiar. There’s loyalty to the relationships built. And there’s always that quiet question in the background:
“What if I’m walking away from something good?”
But over the past couple of years, I also started to notice something that didn’t sit right with me.
My response time slipping.
My attention being pulled in too many directions.
More time spent managing a plan… and less time being fully present with the people inside of it.
And that’s not who I want to be.
Because when someone reaches out - whether it’s a quick question, a big life decision, or a moment of uncertainty - they deserve more than a delayed response or a rushed conversation. They deserve presence. They deserve care. They deserve to feel like they matter.
And at home, I felt it too.
A quiet pull to be more present.
More available.
More intentional with my time and energy for the people I love most.
There’s a quote that kept coming back to me during this process:
“You can do anything, but not everything.”
At some point, I had to be honest with myself. The way I was working - no matter how meaningful - wasn’t allowing me to show up as fully as I wanted to. Not for my clients. And not for my family.
And when you know that you have a responsibility to do something about it.
Another quote that stayed with me:
“Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.”
This decision sits right in that space.
This move is rooted in growth.
In alignment.
In the belief that I can show up better - more present, more responsive, and more intentional - for the people who trust me and the people I love.
Why 1st Responder Financial Advisors
The decision to join 1st Responder Financial Advisors wasn’t just about a new firm, it was about finding the right home for the work I believe in.
A place where:
Relationships come before transactions
Planning is personal, not transactional
First responders aren’t just a niche - they’re the mission
But what also made this decision clear is the ability to expand how and who I serve.
While my heart and experience are deeply rooted in serving first responders, this next chapter allows me to support all of my clients - wherever they are in life, whatever path they’re on - with the same level of care, attention, and thoughtful planning.
At 1st Responder Financial, I have the ability to step out of managing a system - and step fully into serving people.
That means:
More time for individual conversations
More flexibility in building personalized strategies
More attention to the details that matter most
Because retirement isn’t just about a number.
It’s about:
Knowing your family is protected
Having choices with your time
Being present for the moments that matter most
Walking away from the job on your terms
What This Means for My Clients
If you’ve worked with me before, this doesn’t change my commitment to you - it strengthens it.
It means I now have the space to be more responsive.
More available.
More focused on you - not just the plan you’re in.
You can expect:
More personalized planning
Broader strategies and solutions
The same honest, straightforward conversations
And if anything, this move allows me to lean in even more.
Because this is how I want to serve.
This is how I want to show up.
For my clients - and for my family.
Compounding Change
I’ve always believed that small, intentional decisions create meaningful, lasting impact over time.
That’s true in financial planning.
And it’s true in life.
This transition is one of those decisions.
Not a sudden shift - but a thoughtful step forward. One that I believe will compound into something even greater for the people I serve.
Moving Forward
To those who have trusted me along the way - thank you. That trust is something I never take lightly.
And to those I haven’t met yet, I look forward to the opportunity.
Because at the end of the day, this work isn’t about accounts or plans.
It’s about people.
It’s about families.
It's about being present for the moments that matter - both now and in the future.
It’s about making sure that after a career of service; you have the freedom to live the life you’ve earned.
And I’m exactly where I need to be to help make that happen.
If this resonates with you, or if you’re simply wondering how this next chapter could impact your own path, I’d love to connect.
Whether you’re a few years from retirement or just getting started, these conversations don’t have to be overwhelming. We can take it one step at a time - together.
Here’s to being present for what matters most -
until next time,
Shannon
