Overcoming Self-Sabotage with Positive Intelligence

Shannon Davis

A Conversation with Jenna Stoliker, Episode 2

Jenna Stoliker, Leadership Coach for Conscious Leadership, was the guest on the very first episode of the Compounding Change podcast with Shannon Davis.  Recently, she joined again to further the conversation about overcoming change in a positive way.  In this episode,  Jenna shares insights from her coaching program, particularly around the concept of "positive intelligence" (PQ) and how to overcome self-sabotage.

Jenna delves into the idea of how our mindsets, shaped from childhood, often contribute to self-sabotage. These mental patterns can hold us back from achieving our full potential.  Even if it’s hard, it’s important to get the help you need to overcome it.

"The program will put people into maybe an uncomfortable space, but that's where growth and development reside… You don't have to agree with everything, but make it an experiment and discern what is most true for you.”, Jenna explains.

This process of self-reflection and growth is the cornerstone of her coaching program, which challenges individuals to recognize their "saboteurs"—parts of themselves that hinder progress—and reframe them into allies for growth.

Building Mental Fitness and Breaking Old Patterns

Jenna’s approach to coaching focuses on identifying limiting beliefs and behaviors that stem from early life experiences. By becoming more aware of these patterns, individuals can begin to change how they react to situations, which in turn leads to better outcomes.  Looking within for issues to change is important.

Jenna asks, “What are the things... about a situation or a person that I have to interact with that just isn’t so effective? We can finger-point, but it's causing us to respond in a particular way. What’s that all about?”

Shannon tied this concept back to personal and professional life, highlighting that this process of self-discovery can benefit everything from fitness goals to financial success, emphasizing that real change is gradual and requires patience.

Practical Tips for Sustaining Personal Growth

Jenna also offered practical advice on how to sustain these changes over time, focusing on mindfulness and the importance of reflection.  "Having grace means coming back to grace… If you didn't respond the way you wanted to, learn from it. Reflect on what you would do differently next time."

Her focus on resetting and practicing mindfulness helps listeners understand that growth is a continuous journey, one that requires self-compassion and persistence.

This episode of Compounding Change is insightful and pulls no punches when it comes to urging people to take responsibility for their own actions and to overcome change in a positive way. If you’re looking to make meaningful changes in your life, this episode is an inspiring and thoughtful guide on where to start.
